The $100 Start Up: Review

"Dear Boss, I am writing to let you know that your services are no longer required.
Thanks for everything, but I'll be doing things on my own way now."

Now, how is that for your last letter to the boss?
I wished I could have written that instead!
Like my aunt suggested: send in the 2nd part of the letter
LOL

When I told a close client of our company that I have sent in my resignation letter, he was like: Really?? what are you going to do? better offer?

And I said No.
I just wanted to focus on my expanding family and do what I love, on my own terms.
I am done working FOR people.
I want to work with others.
But I have yet to know what.

This Chinese man then suggested me to read this book:

I love the catch up line: Fire Your Boss.
who doesnt?
"It's not theoretical book like Kiyosaki and all, it is more on real life situations and examples on how to start turning what you love into money. It teaches you on how to do, the platform to do it and etc. Read it to explore." His review.

And so, that weekend, using only my Smart Phone, I logged into MPHOnline and bought this book.

I have no time to waste.
I have to start now.
I have so much to learn, to do, to execute.
Every moment is precious.

I am a planner, even though I know things usually go out of its course, but planning makes me put things into perspective. better. to be in control.
so, I need to start planning asap.

Friends ask on how good this book is. and what does it tell?

So here I share my 2 cents of review on what i can gather and learn.

The Opening Manifesto is interesting. As if it speaks to what your heart desires.
You, wanting to live by doing things u love and making money.
Instead of teaching you on Profit and Loss, Internet Business, Cashflow etc,
it talks about two themes: Value and Freedom.

Come on, who doesnt want freedom? free to do what we want.
and to achieve it, we need to provide value.

Value means 'helping people'. Most unexpected entrepreneurs discovered that when they focus on 'helping' people or provide value, their businesses were successful.

Too bad people is not interested to shop for me or pay me to eat.
or pay me to stay home. and bake. or sleep.
(wishlist)

Point #1:
Convergence. which is the intersection between something you like to do or good at,
and what others are interested in.

so, you need to find out what u love doing, or good at, with what others are seeking, or care about.
that way, kachingggg, money can come in.

Point #2:
Use the magic formula:
Passion or skills + usefulness = SuccesS!

this book is not teaching you on how to start or run multimillionaire company.
it focuses on Microbusiness, which is the type of blooming business nowadays.
and it involves low or minimal capital.
something that we have in hand.
no going to the bank and ask for money.

but, in order for us to have that microbusiness element to kick start with,
we need:

a. Product or service: what we sell
b. People willing to pay: our customers
c. A way to get paid: how u prepare a platform to exchange your product with money

I share with you the 6 steps to getting started right now:
(by Guillebeau)
1. decide your product
2. set up a website, even a basic one
3. develop and offer
4. ensure u have a way to get paid (get a Pay Pal)
5. Announce to the world
6. Learn stpes 1 to 5 then repeat.

 Point #3:
Dont just advertise what we sell.
instead, tell them what are the benefits they are getting.
the more we can market on core benefit instead of a list of features, the easier it will be to profit your idea. core benefit usually relate to emotional needs more than physical needs.
Focus on what we can add or take away to improve someone's life. and get paid.

Point #4:
Sometimes we are too scared to start the project.
too many doubts etc,
so, give time for change in plans.
'Plan as u go' to respond to the changing needs of your customers, but launch the business as soon as possible. if it doesnt work, at least u can work on something else sooner.
It also provide a One Page Business Plan for us to outline our business idea:

and to avoid overcomplicating things, our business can be explained using the
140 character mission statement.

Point #5:
It teaches more on marketing and advertising our product in the minimalist way.
what we should say, do and what we should not.
that will be a lot to elaborate!

Point #6:
Money money money
after all, that's what we need to go by the day with.
so, even though we may do it as our hobby, dont forget to profit that has to eventually pay the bills.

Chapter 10 onwards talk more on how to sustain, maintain the business and perhaps to grow.
which, is essential once we have overcome the first few stages of the start up.

My comment:
A good read. opens my eyes on how i should find my passion, what to do with it and more importantly, how do we market our value to the customers.
Marketing is the key. Branding your product.
Once we can brand our service or product, then the rest will go with the flow.

We can read 3 books or 30 books on business and etc, but in the end, the big Q is:
and, are we brave enough to do this?
Now.
Dont waste your time living someone else' life.

Biography of Syed Mohtar

if you are looking for something to read,
i suggest:
Biografi: Syed Mokhtar alBukahry
it is a story of how he became what he is now.
how he worked hard to be where he is now.

more, for me,
it is a story of inspiration, determination, motivation, generosity.
and how we should always remember that everything that we have is because of Allah.
without Him, we have nothing.

i am insipired. motivated. touched.

ive been hassling Hub to read.
it is very hard to persuade him to read!!!

luckily Ayra follows Mommy's footsteps.
she loves reading!!
she would grab a book, comes to us and sits on our laps.
and asks us to read her the book.
together.
and when we are in the bookstore,
she would go around grabbing books and generously give them to
other people nearby,
or even rearrange them freely without charges.

rajin pulak anak Mommy.
